Lead or galvanized water services will be replaced as part of the 2026 Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) Projects.  This project is a continuation of work to identify lead or galvanized services that started in 2024 with a customer survey to self-identify water service line materials.  After the initial customer survey a verification effort by City and WHKS Staff was made to inspect properties that reported having lead or galvanized service lines.   Prior to actual replacement another inspection will be conducted by the City’s Contractor, who will be selected in the future based on public bid, to verify your service line material.

The service line investigation website used previously can be found here: https://waterserviceinventory.com/how-to.html

Additional information from the Minnesota Department of Health can be found here: https://www.health.state.mn.us/communities/environment/water/lslrprogram.html

The proposed construction will be by trenchless methods if possible.  A typical service line replacement will consist of digging a hole at the watermain or curb stop, threading a cable down the existing water service, connecting the cable to the new water service pipe inside the house, and pulling the cable with the old service pipe out while the new service pipe is pulled in.

After your service line is replaced you should run all cold water faucets for 30 minutes.  You will be given a pitcher filter with 6 months of filters as part of the project.

Service Line replacements are anticipated to be preformed between late summer 2026 and early summer 2027

In order for the City to preform the service line replacement on your property a LSLR agreement must be signed and returned to the City.  See link below to your City's agreement.  The links below will be updated once each City awards the contractor the project and we have more information on the contractor's schedule.
